"My son and I recently stayed in the smaller cabin and we were delighted by our experience. We stayed

over the Thanksgiving holiday, we had family also camping nearby in a campsite. The cabin was clean

and neat and a great place to relax while visiting all the fun things to do in Williamsburg. Anvil is very

conveniently located to everywhere we wanted to visit.

Yes, the trains did seem a bit close to the cabin! But they actually made for a fun thing to laugh about.

After the first night they did not seem as bad. The trains would not deter me from visiting Anvil again."

"Stayed at Anvil in Mid Oct 2012 while visiting Williamsburg. Great location as it is on the bus route and we didn’t have a car in tow. The staff was very friendly and the park was quite clean and well

maintained. A special shout out to Raymond who was very helpful to us during our stay, the only issue

was the close proximity to the railroad tracks. But after a busy day of sightseeing, we never seemed to

hear the trains. We would never hesitate to go back."

"Great campground when visiting Williamsburg, VA. Easy to find, convenient to public transportation.

We have stayed at the Anvil Campground 3 times. Twice we did not take a tow vehicle. You can catch a

public bus right at the entrance to the campground and take it to the transportation center where you

can either walk in to colonial Williamsburg or take another bus to any of the other attractions. The rates

are very reasonable. The staff is courteous and always knowledgeable and accommodating. I highly

recommend this campground.

PS-- you don't hear the train once you get use to it."

friend. It is conveniently situated close to the outlets( 2 minutes) and Busch Gardens(10 minutes). The

checked to see if everything was alright and offered his help if we needed anything. Everyone makes you

"We stayed at Anvil campground mid August 2012 and absolutely enjoyed our experience. As Jo K stated

Michael, as well as the whole staff were very attentive to make everyone in the campground

comfortable. Our daughters were able to ride their bikes around the campground and enjoy the pool

with other children in the campground. As for the train our spot was about 100 yards from the tracks

next to the road but it didn't bother us a bit. Anvil is very centrally located to shopping, restaurants, and

colonial Williamsburg. I would definitely recommend this campground to anyone and our local boy scout

is already considering a trip there next year"

"It was our first time at Anvil campground and I must say the whole experience was a positive one. The

staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. Michael, the attendant went out of his way for us to

move a picnic table and upon seeing us at any given time was always friendly, smiling, and asking if

there was anything we needed. There is a train that runs through there frequently but it's a minor

distraction and well worth the little bit of noise for all the ammenities you get there. It's so close to all

the attractions, shopping, & restaurants you couldn't possibly ask for more. It was our first time there

and I can assure you it won't be our last. Site was very clean and ample. We found everyone there to be

extremely friendly."

"Before we left for our trip I read the reviews of Anvil Campground. I actually decided not to stay there

because of comments about the train. Well we ended up there after all and it was actually very nice.

Since it was extremely hot when we were there we had our air conditioner on. Therefore we didn't

really hear the train. However, even when we were outside it wasn't really that bothersome to us. The

staff was very friendly and the grounds were very clean. We were only there a couple of nights but we

would go back to this campground."

"Very nice place for people in their sixties. Small, quaint, close proximity to all the amenities of a

campground.

Just a short walk or bike ride to major shopping & restaurants. The shuttle was the main reason we

picked Anvil Campground from the Woodall book. The train never bothered me. I liked the noise from

the train; it reminded me of my childhood.

"We stayed at Anvil for the first two weeks of July 2012. We knew before booking that there was a train

track very close but we didn't care because after a few trains you hardly notice things like that. It was

very hot the first week and it was great that the pool was open early, 8 am and there is a wonderful,

safe walking trail you can walk to.

We visited Busch Gardens and the water park and just driving around Williamsburg is pure joy. The

outlet malls are close by and every kind of restaurant you can want. The camp is very well run and

"Anvil Campground may be small and near a rail road track however, a great location in the midst of

Willimasburg shopping, restaurants and attractions!!! LOVE IT!! It is a safe and great place to stay if you

place and very helpfull management staff. Trains couldn't be heard for days since we were there. If they

passed at night, I didn't hear them because of my loud noise maker machine...:)"

"We stayed in one of their standard back in sites that back up to the tracks. We were there for 5 days

and the trains never bothered us at all... but the pool was immaculate and all 3 play areas kept our 6 yr

old entertained ... Being on the Williamsburg public bus line is convenient ...You can't beat the price

though. The most outstanding element of this family run and family friendly park is the staff. They were

all truly excellent. We would gladly stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome."

"The fact that the bus stops at the park and will take you to everything to see and do in the area is

magnificent. It is inexpensive and Sooo much better than trying to drive and park at the attractions. The

and helpful. We have been returning there for three years now, I only wish we had found it sooner."

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The registration was easy and check-in was great. The staff even

refunded the portion of one of our adults who chose to get an adjacent site and pay for themselves.

Your store had everything we needed and the staff member (I forgot her name but she had an arm cast)

even called around to find recycling/refill places for our camp stove propane.

We had teenagers who loved the pool and playground. The spinning thing with the ropes was a big hit.

The game room was fun after hours. One of our students was very excited there was a basketball court.

INTERNET ACCESS!!!!!!!!

Loved that you had recycling cans available.

Cleanest and most efficient campground laundry facilities ever. (a comfy chair would make it just about

perfect!)

The bathrooms and showers were sparkling clean…"

"We stayed at Anvil in 2010 and 2011 in October. The amenities are as described, the area is clean, the

staff is helpful and cheerful. Yes, there is a train. NO, it was not all that bothersome. In fact,both my

husband and I slept very well every night. I was injured the first trip and the staff was superb in their

help. We had to leave early and they cheerfully refunded our money. The location is second to none. No

car? No problem - the bus stops at the campground! Need info? they have it! Need tickets? They sell

them. I would highly recommend Anvil to anyone visiting the Williamsburg area. i would definitely stay

there again. We camped in a motorhome."

"The staff were first rate with great information on the area and discounted tickets for attractions. We

had seen reviews with people complaining about the train but knowing it was nearby, it really didn't

bother us and didn't last long when a train did come by. The campground is very clean and the best

located for the area attractions. Our 5th wheel is huge (40' with 4 slides) and it fit on our site with plenty

of room remaining for a campfire and relaxing outside. It was a bit tricky getting level on our site but we

managed. We would definitely stay here again."

"We stayed here for a long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our trip. The staff was very friendly and

helpful. The sites were small and close, but adequate, fairly level, and nicely shaded. Getting in and out

was easy. Every thing was clean and well maintained. The pool was small, but so is the campgrounds, so

it was never too crowded. The location was GREAT since it's close to all the local attractions. We would

definitely stay here again when visiting Busch Gardens and Williamsburg. I would have given it a higher

rating if the sites were larger, there were planned activities, and the playgrounds included a little more

than standard backyard equipment. But really, in this area, there's so much to do that we didn't really

miss those things and wouldn't have used them if they were there. Kids can't wait to go back! We

camped here in a Travel Trailer. "

"The staff were very friendly and helpful, not only regarding the park but also providing information, tips

and discount tickets to attractions in the area. The park is the closest to Colonial Williamsburg. Our site

size was reasonably sized, even with our large unit and was tidy. Our only complaint was it could have

been a bit more level, but we managed. The train tracks are next to the park and trains do go by, but

that did not bother us. We would camp here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel."

The family owned Anvil campground is great for someone without a trailing car. There is a bus for $2 a

person (all day transit) that will take you to the 'central hub'. From there you can easily and quickly

transfer to the next line to take you to the historic sites.

The owner Ray was very helpful to us as we were traveling with a 38' Pace Arrow for the first time ever

and truly had no idea how to connect, dump or get the generator going! Talk about novices..but Ray had

patience, knowledge and enlisted the help of our neighbor to walk us through the process. Prior to

arrival, Ray asked whether we had a Passport which would have resulted in a large discount so we

contacted them, received a link to show at the campsite and Ray honored the 50% rate.

Now the slight downside (I really mean SLIGHT) is the train issue. There is a train track that runs very

nearby the campsites but the only time it really would have affected us was sleeping. Having read the

information about the train prior to arriving, we just bought earplugs and slept soundly and comfortably

for 2 nights.

The little general store was filled with items that any camper would need and the outside showers (since

we couldn't figure out how to get hot water!) were fabulously strong and very clean.

The overall experience was wonderful and when we return to Williamsburg we will definitely stay at

Anvil again. We were there early March and the weather was mild, several sites were occupied and

people were very friendly. There were swingsets and what looked like a fun summer activity area with a

pool, horseshoe area and lots of 'green' space. While we were there, with the weather mild, Ray and his

staff were planting and preparing for the summer rush! Enjoy the campsite and say hello!
