"We chose to stay at Anvil because of the professional, helpful office staff that talked with us on the phone prior to our visit. Upon our arrival and throughout our month-long stay, We were not disappointed. They were always willing to offer a welcoming wave, kind word or helpful advice. "We were totally overcome by the personal attention received by the owner & staff of Anvil campground. This is a small cozy campground where you are known by name rather then a site number. We signed up for 3 nights but went back and reserved 2 more nights. The location is perfect for touring the area. We would rate the park a 10 in all aspects. "My husband and I have grown up camping, and are now in our 60's....this is one of the BEST places we have stayed! Recommendations made by staff were excellent. This family and staff really have the campers' best interest as the forefront for running the business. Their enthusiasm is unsurpassed. There is a train track behind the campground, with a coal train that goes by several times during the day. Some feel it's annoying, but we actually enjoyed it. "The campground was very clean and comfortable. The restrooms were spotless! The staff is extremely friendly & helpful. The huge plus is this is the only campground located on the Williamsburg Public Bus System. Campers beware it is located next to the train tracks, so don't be surprised or disappointed when you arrive. With that being said we slept right through them. We would most definitely stay here again."

"We picked this location because it was close to Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown. We wanted a place where we could save money by making breakfast and dinner. It was a great pick. There's a bedroom with a queen bed and living room with a full size futon. The also had a roll away bed in the closet. Free wi-fi access. The kitchen is great with a full size stove/oven, full size refrigerator and table for four. Also had stock pot, sautee pans, dishes, utensils and more. Outside the door was a fire pit (we didn't have time to use) and horse shoe pit (my husband and kids enjoyed playing while I cooked dinner). There is a train that goes by but we loved it. It was not too loud. If you need to use the laundry after hours make sure you have change. Cute little general store on site. There's a pool, play ground, laundry room with two washer and two dryers. The staff was SUPER friendly!

"We arrived here when hurricane Joaquin was on the way up the coast so it rained, every day. The campground was cozy, clean and comfortable. We were located just a. Few miles from colonial Williamsburg. Also close to Newport News that has a very wonderful maritime museum. 

Because of the rain we got to stay in the park we used the laundry and as we have 4 dogs we did a lot of walking around. The owners were preparing for the hurricane but always had time to talk to us and they were really nice. I would highly recommend this place..

"We arrived early at Anvil after an over night trip from our home. The staff was friendly, helpful and informative. We settled in to our site and then went back to the office for some area info. 

Ray was so helpful in assisting us with transportation and sightseeing you would think he was part of your family.

Everyone we encountered went out of their way to assist in any way possible.

We have been traveling for years and can say without a doubt that we have never encountered a more friendly staff.

Our campsite was great and the location was perfect.The free Wi-Fi was excellent.The restrooms were spotless and the maintenance crew was always sprucing up the grounds.

Sightseeing around Williamsburg, Busch Gardens and even Virginia Beach was convenient from our location.

We would definitely return!

Room Tip: The premium sites are a little larger and give you more outside room to relax.”

"The campground does not have all the "bells and whistles" of a big RV resort but it is super convenient to all that Williamsburg has to offer. We have a daughter at William and Mary which is about 7 minutes away. They even have a shuttle bus that goes right there. Did I mention they have the friendliest staff I have ever seen at a campground as well? They do have a train that passes and a road on one side but turn on your fan people! No whistle from the train at night so no worries. We will be staying there again and again!...

"This campground has been around forever and the quality of customer service is why. The current owners, sons of the original owner are the friendliest and most knowledgable in the area. We have stayed here each time we are in Williamsburg, often for a month at a time. Yes, the campground is between a busy road and the railroad tracks. Neither deter us from the place. I find the trains comforting. The regional bus stops right outside the campground for those who choose not to drive to the attractions. The campground is gravel and can only accommodate a few big rig. It has the best wi-if we've seen in 18 months of full-timing. Highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: Big rigs make your reservations early.”

"I had originally reserved a tent site, but we were flooded out at our stop before arriving. Called and upgraded to a cottage. Aprox. $130/night fully furnished, for the small (forgot how big that one was, sorry). When we arrived they were doing repairs on that one so they gave us the larger (600sq feet) for the same price. Nice open floor plan, fireplace, TV in living room and bedroom. Furniture,pots/pan/dishes/towels/ one bedroom, living room with futon, kitchen, bath. Very nice/clean. Staff very friendly, campground clean. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: The campsite is located next to a railroad (we were informed of this when we booked). Train does not go thru very often”

"We had a nice stay at the campground. Only a 10 minute ride to Williamsburg and 15-20 to Jamestown. Sites were clean and well laid out. All camper sites are layered with gravel. Compared to other camp grounds it is small, but larger is not always better. The staff members were always pleasant and addressed any concerns we had promptly. The shower house was clean and well maintained. We did not use the pool but it looked well maintained. Wi-Fi was a lot better then other campgrounds where we have stayed. There was a little road noise because the campground sits off of a pretty busy road but the spots near it are usually used for campers so the noise is minimal at night. On the other side were train tracks so you get a little noise from that as well but it was not on a set schedule, but came through here and there. We would definitely stay there again.

"This campground is closest to the Historic town of Williamsburg and a short drive to Jamestown Settlement. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the grounds were well kept. The pool is small but nice enough, we were mostly busy with day trips. They have a small playground, fire rings on each site and stores and restaurants close by... We stayed 3 nights and did not hear any trains go by overnight.

Room Tip: Choose the sites closest to the entrance, they are much bigger. However they are all back ins.

"My family of 5 stayed at the Black Smith cottage. 1 bedroom with a queen bed, living room, kicthen and bathroom, plenty of room. Living room had a double futon type bed and 2 single rollaway beds. It was perfect for us. Awesome place to stay for a trip to Williamsburg, VA. Close to Outlet Mall, Water Country USA and Busch Gardens. Much better than a hotel and much cheaper for a family of 5 or more.. The camp ground staff was very helpful and very nice. It was super clean and quite. My kids absolutely love this place.. We don't travel to VA very often but when we do, we will definitely stay here. Thanks for all your help and hospitality."

"We truly enjoyed our stay at the campground. We were on vacation with our grandson and 2 mastweiler dogs. The staff at the campground was extremely friendly and we were greeted with good old southern hospitality. We plan on visiting Williamsburg, Va next year and we will definitely be staying at Anvil. Our grandson loved the pool and the bathrooms and showers were clean. The campground is centrally located to all the major attractions in Colonial Williamsburg area. Would definitely recommend this campground to family and friends.

"I came across this campground in the last hours before leaving for vacation. I originally had reservations at Thousand Trails Campground. After finding out that Thousand Trails Campground had poor lighting at night and narrow roadways. All of these issues led me to cancel my reservation, only days before check-in. I then called Anvil Campground and spoke to Raymond. He assisted me with making last minute reservations and within minutes, I was confident that this was the right place for my son and I to stay. Once I arrived at 2AM, I was easily able to find my paperwork and campsite. The next morning, I personally introduced myself to Raymond and the week couldn't have been better. As a owner of a family run business, I was able to appreciate the personal attention that I received from Chris and Raymond. My experience at the Anvil Campground and the area in general, made me a repeat customer for years to come!!

"Though the railways are loud-the cleanliness and friendliness outweigh this issue for us. We love this campground-premium sites are extra large, wifi is strong and bathhouse are well maintained. I would highly recommend this campground. Easy access to many highlights of Williamsburg.”

"Small but very nice...owner and staff all very friendly ...the grounds are super clean and landscaped beautifully. so much nicer than those 500 plus campgrounds.. Kmart is at the end of the road ....and all kinds of restaurants a very short distance away. There is a train close by but it never bothered me at all ....Its so easy to sleep here ..NO NOISE!!!

"This is a great campground. Clean with several nice amenities including a pool! The staff is super helpful and nice even staying late to check us in right at closing. You can easily access parks from the bus stop located just at the entrance but make sure you check your times so you plan accordingly. You can also use Uber. For those that have complained about the train it definitely runs through the campground quite often but my kids loved it. We could not hear it at night over the AC in the RV. That might be different if you are tent camping but was not a problem for us.
