"We chose to stay at Anvil because of the professional, helpful office staff that talked with us on the phone prior to our visit. Upon our arrival and throughout our month-long stay, We were not disappointed. They were always willing to offer a welcoming wave, kind word or helpful advice. "We were totally overcome by the personal attention received by the owner & staff of Anvil campground. This is a small cozy campground where you are known by name rather then a site number. "This is an excellent RV park. Check it /out went quickly, sites are relatively level and spacious and lots of amenities suitable for children...

The campground is very close to historical areas. I WOULD stay there when ever in the area.

"My husband and I have grown up camping, and are now in our 60's....this is one of the BEST places we have stayed! Recommendations made by staff were excellent. This family and staff really have the campers' best interest as the forefront for running the business. Their enthusiasm is unsurpassed. There is a train track behind the campground, with a coal train that goes by several times during the day. Some feel it's annoying, but we actually enjoyed it. "The campground was very clean and comfortable. The restrooms were spotless! The staff is extremely friendly & helpful. The huge plus is this is the only campground located on the Williamsburg Public Bus System. Campers beware it is located next to the train tracks, so don't be surprised or disappointed when you arrive. With that being said we slept right through them. We would most definitely stay here again."

"We picked this location because it was close to Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown. We wanted a place where we could save money by making breakfast and dinner. It was a great pick. There's a bedroom with a queen bed and living room with a full size futon. The also had a roll away bed in the closet. Free wi-fi access. The kitchen is great with a full size stove/oven, full size refrigerator and table for four. Also had stock pot, sautee pans, dishes, utensils and more. Outside the door was a fire pit (we didn't have time to use) and horse shoe pit (my husband and kids enjoyed playing while I cooked dinner). There is a train that goes by but we loved it. It was not too loud. If you need to use the laundry after hours make sure you have change. Cute little general store on site. There's a pool, play ground, laundry room with two washer and two dryers. The staff was SUPER friendly!

"We arrived here when hurricane Joaquin was on the way up the coast so it rained, every day. The campground was cozy, clean and comfortable. We were located just a. Few miles from colonial Williamsburg. Also close to Newport News that has a very wonderful maritime museum. 

Because of the rain we got to stay in the park we used the laundry and as we have 4 dogs we did a lot of walking around. The owners were preparing for the hurricane but always had time to talk to us and they were really nice. I would highly recommend this place..

"We arrived early at Anvil after an over night trip from our home. The staff was friendly, helpful and informative. We settled in to our site and then went back to the office for some area info. 

Ray was so helpful in assisting us with transportation and sightseeing you would think he was part of your family.

Everyone we encountered went out of their way to assist in any way possible.

We have been traveling for years and can say without a doubt that we have never encountered a more friendly staff.

Our campsite was great and the location was perfect.The free Wi-Fi was excellent.The restrooms were spotless and the maintenance crew was always sprucing up the grounds.

Sightseeing around Williamsburg, Busch Gardens and even Virginia Beach was convenient from our location.

We would definitely return!

Room Tip: The premium sites are a little larger and give you more outside room to relax.”

"The campground does not have all the "bells and whistles" of a big RV resort but it is super convenient to all that Williamsburg has to offer. We have a daughter at William and Mary which is about 7 minutes away. They even have a shuttle bus that goes right there. Did I mention they have the friendliest staff I have ever seen at a campground as well? They do have a train that passes and a road on one side but turn on your fan people! No whistle from the train at night so no worries. We will be staying there again and again!...

"This campground has been around forever and the quality of customer service is why. The current owners, sons of the original owner are the friendliest and most knowledgable in the area. We have stayed here each time we are in Williamsburg, often for a month at a time. Yes, the campground is between a busy road and the railroad tracks. Neither deter us from the place. I find the trains comforting. The regional bus stops right outside the campground for those who choose not to drive to the attractions. The campground is gravel and can only accommodate a few big rig. It has the best wi-if we've seen in 18 months of full-timing. Highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: Big rigs make your reservations early.”

"I had originally reserved a tent site, but we were flooded out at our stop before arriving. Called and upgraded to a cottage. Aprox. $130/night fully furnished, for the small (forgot how big that one was, sorry). When we arrived they were doing repairs on that one so they gave us the larger (600sq feet) for the same price. Nice open floor plan, fireplace, TV in living room and bedroom. Furniture,pots/pan/dishes/towels/ one bedroom, living room with futon, kitchen, bath. Very nice/clean. Staff very friendly, campground clean. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: The campsite is located next to a railroad (we were informed of this when we booked). Train does not go thru very often”

"We had a nice stay at the campground. Only a 10 minute ride to Williamsburg and 15-20 to Jamestown. Sites were clean and well laid out. All camper sites are layered with gravel. Compared to other camp grounds it is small, but larger is not always better. The staff members were always pleasant and addressed any concerns we had promptly. The shower house was clean and well maintained. We did not use the pool but it looked well maintained. Wi-Fi was a lot better then other campgrounds where we have stayed. There was a little road noise because the campground sits off of a pretty busy road but the spots near it are usually used for campers so the noise is minimal at night. On the other side were train tracks so you get a little noise from that as well but it was not on a set schedule, but came through here and there. We would definitely stay there again.

"This campground is closest to the Historic town of Williamsburg and a short drive to Jamestown Settlement. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the grounds were well kept. The pool is small but nice enough, we were mostly busy with day trips. They have a small playground, fire rings on each site and stores and restaurants close by... We stayed 3 nights and did not hear any trains go by overnight.

Room Tip: Choose the sites closest to the entrance, they are much bigger. However they are all back ins.

"My family of 5 stayed at the Black Smith cottage. 1 bedroom with a queen bed, living room, kicthen and bathroom, plenty of room. Living room had a double futon type bed and 2 single rollaway beds. It was perfect for us. Awesome place to stay for a trip to Williamsburg, VA. Close to Outlet Mall, Water Country USA and Busch Gardens. Much better than a hotel and much cheaper for a family of 5 or more.. The camp ground staff was very helpful and very nice. It was super clean and quite. My kids absolutely love this place.. We don't travel to VA very often but when we do, we will definitely stay here. Thanks for all your help and hospitality."

"We truly enjoyed our stay at the campground. We were on vacation with our grandson and 2 mastweiler dogs. The staff at the campground was extremely friendly and we were greeted with good old southern hospitality. We plan on visiting Williamsburg, Va next year and we will definitely be staying at Anvil. Our grandson loved the pool and the bathrooms and showers were clean. The campground is centrally located to all the major attractions in Colonial Williamsburg area. "I came across this campground in the last hours before leaving for vacation. I originally had reservations at Thousand Trails Campground. After finding out that Thousand Trails Campground had poor lighting at night and narrow roadways. All of these issues led me to cancel my reservation, only days before check-in. I then called Anvil Campground and spoke to Raymond. He assisted me with making last minute reservations and within minutes, I was confident that this was the right place for my son and I to stay. Once I arrived at 2AM, I was easily able to find my paperwork and campsite. The next morning, I personally introduced myself to Raymond and the week couldn't have been better. As a owner of a family run business, I was able to appreciate the personal attention that I received from Chris and Raymond. My experience at the Anvil Campground and the area in general, made me a repeat customer for years to come!!

"This is a great campground. Clean with several nice amenities including a pool! The staff is super helpful and nice even staying late to check us in right at closing. You can easily access parks from the bus stop located just at the entrance but make sure you check your times so you plan accordingly. You can also use Uber. For those that have complained about the train it definitely runs through the campground quite often but my kids loved it. We could not hear it at night over the AC in the RV. That might be different if you are tent camping but was not a problem for us.

"My wife and I were blessed to be able to stay at this campground during our over 2,000 mile motorcycle trip. The facilities are clean and well kept. The staff all worked hard to make sure their guests were informed of local attractions and about travel options like the local shuttle service. We felt like family and I highly recommend this campground... Great place for camping and it's close to the attractions as well, great location!

Room Tip: “Stay here for a cheaper alternative to a pricey hotel! use the $2(per day) shuttle service to take you to Jamestown Settlement.”

"Our family recently stayed at Anvil for our visit to Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. The location is great bc it is only few miles from Williamsburg visitor center and parkway (which goes to Jamestown and Yorktown), and also close to shopping, restaurants, etc. The amenities were clean and well maintained. And the customer service we received was outstanding. I typically do not use words like "outstanding" and I typically do not take time to write reviews... But Ray and staff were pleasantly helpful throughout. We had a great time, thoroughly enjoyed staying at Anvil and highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

"Stayed here two nights to visit the area and our expectations were exceeded. Exceptionally clean and well manicured sites. While sites are not paved the rocks are clean, dust free and when it rained they quickly drained. 

The staff and owner are outstanding. Have a great knowledge of the area and are eager to share with you. Everyone was pleasant and courteous. 

The campground is close to Colonial Williamsburg and if you follow directions (we didn't) you can easily get to Yorktown and Jamestown. 

I highly recommend this campground and if our travels ever bring us to the area we will be back.

"Stayed here two nights to visit the area. Cannot speak highly enough about this campground. Clean, well manicured grounds and sites. While not paved the rocks on the sites are ample and dust free. The rain came and the site drained quickly. 

Staff and owner are friendly, courteous and helpful. In all my years of camping I have not met a friendlier group.  

Close to Colonial Williamsburg plus Yorktown and Jamestown.

"Staying at one of the cottages at Anvil Campground was better than any hotel experience I've ever had! The cottage was roomy, cool and even had cable and wifi! They were very pet friendly and the cottage was spotlessly clean! I will be staying here in the future for sure! The cottage could easily sleep 6 people and included a full kitchen and bathroom!"

"We greatly enjoyed our stay at Anvil Campground. The location was fabulous. Close to Prime Outlets and Richmond Road. Short travel to downtown Williamsburg. Nice pool and camp store. Grounds were clean, and the staff were very friendly. Free WiFi! The campground is situated between train tracks and a busy road, but this did not bother us.

"This family owned campground is close to Williamsburg attractions. The staff was super friendly and helpful (they went out of their way to accommodate us), grounds and facilities were very clean and well maintained. Free excellent WiFi. There is a train that passes by a couple of times a day. We actually liked watching the train go by. It didn't bother us. We had a wonderful time, and will be back!

"We were privileged to spend the winter at Anvil and had a wonderful stay. The campground is pristine, personnel exceptional and location is perfect. Although there are trains, we came to enjoy the rhythmic sounds and truly miss them now that we've moved. Bus service to local attractions is right on site and make a visit to Colonial Williamsburg easy. "We stayed at this campground during Memorial Day Weekend. The park was full to capacity. Even though it was full the staff were accommodating and friendly. The facility was clean at all times. The only thing to know is there is a train that goes by one time at night and the road has some traffic. However they have planted trees along the road. We would definitely stay here again

"My wife and I just spent a 4 day vacation at the Anvil Campground for our anniversary. We had a fantastic time! There were so many reasons we loved this location. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding areas. The owner, Chris Jump, was very personable and made our check-in and check-out very smooth. The location of the campground is wonderful as well, as it only took us 5-10 minutes to get places we were planning on seeing and visiting! We stayed in the Journeyman cottage, and it automatically felt like a home away from home. The price was well below what we would have spent for a nice hotel for the same amount of days, but we had a whole cottage! It was very comfortable and very clean thanks to Mollie. I will keep Anvil Campgrounds at the top of my list for anytime I stay in Williamsburg. We can't wait to get back!!"

"We visited Colonial Williamsburg for spring break and stayed in the Journeyman's cabin at Anvil Campground. The staff was friendly, the campground was quiet and clean, and the cabin itself was very nice for the price. The best part was the full kitchen, a benefit you don't get with most of the area hotels. The location was convenient to everything we wanted to do. Overall we were satisfied with our stay!

"My spouse, cousin and I just spent a terrific week at Anvil Campground. The location has to be about the best possible in terms of a central location from which to make your visits and day-trips to surrounding attractions. The staff is warm, caring and very "in tune" to your needs. You do not have to look far to see the pride the owner's take in providing a family friendly place. "Made reservations for 4 nights during Spring break. Arrived, site was ready. Campground is clean and well-maintained. WES hookups are easy and modern. For $2.00 per adult (kids free), we took the Williamsburg bus to the store, Jamestown, old Williamsburg, and to the transit center. The $2.00 includes the new town Williamsburg trolley. The bus stop is right at the campground. Fire ring at each site is nice. We liked the sound of trains passing on the nearby tracks. Highly Recommended

"If your looking to take in the Williamsburg attractions without having to drive this is the place. The WATA bus stop is right on the campground and it's super easy to get around to all the local attractions for only $2.00/day/adult. The outlets are close enough to walk to as well as Captain George's Seafood Buffet. The campground is clean and the staff is and super friendly. The only downside to this campground is that there is a well traveled road on one side of the campground and a very active railroad on the other side. If you have your choice I would recommend to pic a site on the road side. All in all we will definitely be back when we visit Williamsburg.

"The Anvil Campground was WONDERFUL. There were many things that were great, but the number one thing was the proximity - right in the middle between Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown. 

Also, the people from Anvil were super friendly from the person who took our reservation over the phone to the front desk and even the maintenance man. 

- The WiFi was THE BEST we have experienced in any campground

with extensive travel in more than 20 states.

- The sites were spacious enough for our 40-footer and easy to navigate.

- The hookups looked new and everything was in working order and was 

easy to use.

- The restrooms were very clean, and extra heat was brought in for

unseasonably cold weather to ensure campers' comfort.

- The camp store was well equipped with the little parts you 

sometimes need.

- With three (3) separate playgrounds, our grandkids were thrilled.

- The teens liked the variety in the arcade room.

- I liked that there were 4 washers and 4 dryers in the laundry room

with a change machine in the arcade room, and that it was open 

24 hours (many close by 9pm).

- The younger ones were enthralled with the Amtrak and coal 

TRAINS on the nearby tracks (some might mind the noise, but 

our RV is well insulated so we did not hear the trains when 

we were sleeping). The kids enjoyed counting the passing 

train cars.

- The shuttle on the city bus line was convenient and the 

staff are well acquainted with local activities and places. 

Did we mention the smiling faces of the staff? This is a family-owned campground and you can tell that they love what they are doing and focus on keeping their customers happy. Chris, Ray and all of the others were really great. We were very pleased with this campground and will return!"

"We love Anvil Campground! Cozy, obvious pride of family ownership, super convenient, new renovations, absolutely clean, perfect location to Williamsburg, shuttle rides to Historic Town, Water Country, and Busch Gardens, and possibly the most friendly staff we have ever seen. So, why not five stars, because to us, this is a five star facility. The facility is next to an active train line. You can hear the train. You can feel the train. The train did not bother us at all. If a nearby train would bother you, then this is not the facility for you. If you can overlook the train, this is possibly the best place to RV in the Williamsburg area.

It is an easy in and out off the highway into the facility. The campsites are well maintained with new utility pedestals. The gravel is new and with super clean sites. The sites are somewhat close, but no closer than many other places. All of the facilities - game room, pool, showers, store - were all very nice. There are big rig, small rig, and tent camping sites. Plenty of green space to walk the hounds. The hounds' bus driver even took them for a nature walk in the spacious Waller Mill Park just across the street.

This would be a perfect place for a camping group weekend except that they do not have a rally room. There is a gazebo as well a plenty of outdoor space to picnic. With the great selection of restaurants in Williamsburg, if you go, you may just want to eat out anyway.

We stayed here over Grand Illumination Weekend in December 2014. Even though this is a very busy weekend for Williamsburg, there were plenty of available sites. We got to meet people from all over the country that came here just for the weekend. We are already planning on coming back for next year.

The hounds decided that their RV bus driver needed an break for that weekend, so we stayed in the pet friendly Blacksmith's Cottage. It was pretty spartan, but had everything we needed - microwave, toaster, stove/oven, coffee maker, wine opener. You don't need to bring anything but the food (and shampoo and bath soap). There is a double bed with linens. If you want to use the roll away beds, you'll need to bring linens for them. It has an adorable front porch and nice lawn. It was very clean and the bathroom was up to date. The Wi-Fi and Cable TV worked well. Plus - it has a working fireplace. Minus - it has the smell of a working fireplace. Still, this was a great little cottage. I could easily see a family coming here to spend the week - much better than a hotel for the same price.

This is a very pet friendly place. To our embarrassment, Bambi the Wonderdog liked the couch to much that she took a chomp out of the wood. We reported this right away. The owners totally understood and did not charge us a damage fee. This reflects the overall attitude of this place - laid back but together. Bambi was very repentant about the whole incident. 

We came back in January and camped for a weekend in the RV. What a great place! The site was good sized, everything worked well, and we enjoyed it as much as when we stayed before. The place is pretty vacant in January, but the staff let us know that we were there. They opened the game room just for us. The bathing facilities were spotless. This is just a perfect place to RV out of.

We'll definitely be back!

Both cottages are nice. The Blacksmiths Cottage is a bit larger and has a great front porch, so you might want to stay there if you are with a family. You can't lose at any of the RV sites.

"Have been here last 2 years in an RV. This past December we rented the Blacksmith Cottage the weekend before Christmas. What a perfect, cozy place to stay - kitchen, living room with fireplace, one bedroom and bath. Even had covered patio that since it was Christmas we decorated with lights and lighted snowmen! Campground is very close to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens and lots of places to eat and shop. My husband and I are definitely planning on returning this year!"
