"10 out of 10 - superior!  We didn't know what to expect when we realized this Campground was in town!  Thought, 'Oh they probably have a run down place & count on location' NOT SO!!  Anvil is great!  The RR in back was minimal (less than in Hershey PA!) The place is clean.  It's really quaint, well set up, easy to get into & out of AND the staff was so friendly & informative.  The grounds are really well maintained.  Definitely coming back when in Williamsburg/Yorktown/etc.  Great job Anvil!!"

"Our week long stay at Anvil began 12/4/14. It was perfect for us and it was significantly less expensive than the KOA. It is sandwiched between a highway and a railroad track, but my husband and I love trains so it was a plus for us. We travel with dogs and there was a nice area to walk them in front of the campground. The staff were very friendly and helpful and go out of their way to be sure all guests are comfortable. We would definitely stay here again."

"We have went to Anvil the past 3 Thanksgivings. They are wonderful to work with. You cannot get a more central location to everything in the Williamsburg area. The staff made sure we weren't going to go hungry on the holiday, letting us know what was going to be open and even offering to call and make reservations for us. We are down there to see colonial Williamsburg, the Jamestown Settlement and Busch Gardens, and Anvil is no more than 15 minutes from any of them."

"We've been traveling in our RV for the last year and a half. We've stayed in 36 states and probably 60 or 70 RV parks and campgrounds. I can say this place will be in my top 10. I say this because it's close to the historic triangle ( Williamsburg, Jamestown, & Yorktown) It's super clean and the person that ran the office was extremely pleasant and helpful... it included Full hookups, super fast wifi and cable tv. They're also on the bus line if you prefer not to drive. And the Aleworks brewery is less than a mile away! There is a train that runs right behind the park, but it didn't bother us at all. Other than feeling it rumble through every once in awhile, I didn't even notice it was there. If we are ever back in the area, this would be the only place I would choose to stay!"

"We stayed here in our 36' Fifthwheel during the last two weeks of Oct. 2014. We really enjoyed our stay and the staff were very nice and always helpful . The sites are somewhat tight but very well maintained. They have a great free WiFi and TV cable system... The park is very close to Colonial Williamsburg / Jamestown and Yorktown. We would stay here again if in the area."

"Employees were extremely friendly. My husband loved the power pedestal-very unique and lit up. Wide roads made the campground easy to get in and out. Sites were not as close together as some we have experienced at Myrtle Beach. Friend that traveled with us, stayed in one of the cabins and said they were nice as well-she felt 10am checkout for cabins were a bit early. Would visit again. Arrived on Thursday and check out on Sunday."

"Great place! Chris and the family just keep improving the campground. Have been camping there since 2001, and it is our favorite campground in Williamsburg by far. During a recent trip our camper's electric water heater overheated, and the Anvil staff turned off the electricity and gave me a call. You can't find more caring, helpful people!"

"A destination campground. Makes it easy to see Williamsburg. The campground is on the city bus line. You change buses one time and arrive at the Williamsburg Visitors Center. A very short walk down the hill and you catch the Willliamsburg shuttle to any place in Colonial Williamsburg. I didn't have to move my motorhome for a week! Yes, the train tracks are close by. Bring a white noise device if train noise bothers you. I kind of liked it. The sites are very small but the campground is clean and safe. Very nice staff. Will stay there again."

"...This is a great park convenient to Historic Colonial Williamsburg. The shuttle service is the area transit bus, which we used for the four days we were here. The sites are not large but were sufficient. The WIFI worked great. Manager was super at check-in and always friendly. We needed to leave a night early due to a family emergency and he issued a refund for that night with no problem. Like others have said, there are train tracks very close to camping but they never woke us at night so it was not an issue. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome."

"this was a good campground. A little tight for a 42' motorhome, but certainly doable. Nice shade, but the trees impacted satellite reception. There is some significant train noise here, but we did get use to it and it was okay. What really stands out here is the staff. Very nice, action oriented, knowledgeable of the area attractions, etc, especially Ray! Will stay here again when in this area."

"This was a great experience. The facilities are very clean and most sites have tree coverage. The kids had a great time in the pool and around the camp. The staff and campers were very friendly. The camp is very close to all of the sites in the area. There are train track next to the park but that was not really an issue. Loved it an would return. We camped here in a Motorhome."

"This was our second visit to Anvil, and we loved it as much as the first time. The sites are close, but adequate. There is a nice tree canopy over most of the campgrounds, and the staff is the friendliest you will ever meet. Everything is clean and well cared for. The pool is small, but so is the campground, so it is never too crowded, and we all have a great time meeting new friends here. It is located close to everything going on in the area...We camped here in a Travel Trailer."

"What sold us the campground is people. When calling up to get information they were very helpful and nice. Called other local campgrounds, though not mean, they were really not very pleasant. One popular one even got mad at us because they thought we said 3 kids and not 2.

"Having just returned from our second stay at this campground, we love it here! It is a small, clean, well maintained site with the friendliest staff you will ever meet. Although the sites are close, they are sufficient in size and have a nice tree canopy overhead. There is a bike path nearby that leads to a lovely park with boating, hiking trails, etc. We LOVE staying here when visiting Williamsburg and Busch Gardens because it is so close to everything..."

"I just stayed there last week July 9-13 everything is kept so clean... The guy that checked me in was about as nice of a person I have met and I have been RVin 20 years. There is a train that runs beside the campground but you know it did not bother me at all and if it ran after 11:00 pm I didn't hear it while sleeping . I would over all give this a 10 and have already sent some family there... Thanks"

"This is an excellent campground, with great managers to serve your needs. The location for camping is excellent in relationship to the downtown Williamsburg. "Staff are exceptional! Called me back to help me with alternate directions when my cell phone dropped the call in heavy traffic on I-64. Got me out of the traffic and to the campground effortlessly... five star service... Pool was super clean, arcade was super clean. Everything- super clean. Train noise was not noticeable after the first couple of times it went by. You get used to it ... Would stay here again because of the staff for sure!"

"We booked the Blacksmith Cottage for our 4 day stay in Williamsburg. My daughter is stationed at Ft Eustis so we took a family vacation to see her over the 4th of July. This campground is wonderful. The cottage was amazing. Plenty of room for 6 people. ... Other than that we were able to cook as a family and actually spend time together. There were horseshoe pits and a basketball court right next to the cabin so we enjoyed those as a family. The pool was a wonderful retreat from the heat of Virginia. The staff are absolutely amazing. When we arrived there was a hurricane that was a possibility to make it that far north so of course we were worried about the fireworks shows for the following evening. They said they would keep watch and let us know the next morning. Which they did. And we got to go to Yorktown to see the fireworks, which i had had my heart set on for months. I will stay at this campground anytime i go see my daughter as long as she continues to be stationed in Virginia. There aren't enough stars to give Anvil Campground! They are wonderful!"

"We stayed for a week in our camper/van.The park will accommodate anything from tent or cabin camping to large motorhomes. Staff and guests were all very friendly and courteous, and the atmosphere is peaceful with the feeling of a little village. Staff is highly committed to customer service and will often stop the task at hand to answer questions. The park is very clean and well-maintained. There is a nice pool, shower facilities, game room, and laundry room.The location is on a bus stop for city transportation, and a small fee will give you a day pass. Transfer points will connect to Williamsburg, shopping, restaurants, etc. Jamestown is an 8 mile drive from the campground and a little farther to Yorktown or Busch Gardens. The night trains did not bother us in our RV… Be sure to check out the historical display and learn how Anvil got its name. We would definitely return to this campground, and we highly recommend it to others."

"Recently bought a used 18 ft hybrid travel trailer and this was my first time taking it out. Stayed at Anvil for 2 nights. Very clean, well kept site. Has a well stocked camp supply store/check-in facility. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Used the pool which was clean. Bathrooms are clean. Has 3 playground areas for the little ones. Bus stops at Anvil but wasn't personally needed. Campground is close to Premium Outlets, downtown Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. The train is loud but no big deal and my 3 yo son loved it."

"My husband and I stayed at Anvil Campground 5/23/14 to 5/26/14. We have a 31 foot motorhome and found the site to be very comfortable. We had a full hook-up. 

We didn't tow a car, so we found that being located on the local bus line very convenient. One day we took the bus to Busch Gardens and another day took it to Colonial Williamsburg. No problems. We were within walking distance to several restaurants. On one of our walks back to the campground from Capt George's Seafood Buffet, we found a bike trail. We took the trail the next morning to Waller's Mill Pond. It was a nice bike trail leading to a park. 

There are railroad tracks close to the tenting side of the campground, but after awhile, you don't notice the trains. We were on the highway side of the campground and yes, there was road noise, but again, after awhile you didn't notice it. 

What really made this a great place were the people that ran the campground. They were so kind and wanted to be sure you get the best experience. The pool was clean, there were always children playing at the playgrounds, people were walking dogs and visiting. It was just a great all around atmosphere. I would recommend this campground and feel that my family will return for another visit."

"We had a good time there. We loved the fact that it was on the bus system. We were able to run around all over Williamsburg after we learned the system. We got "home" every night worn out & were ready for bed. We even used the taxi service to go to a restaurant outside the bus circle. Everything worked well, Wi-Fi, cable, water, even the lot was level. No work for us at all. Any questions were answered right away. Truly enjoyed the stay & would readily recommend this campground to anyone. The trains were even fun to see!"

"Spent a long weekend in Williamsburg. We arrived after hours and found our site assignment waiting for us at the front door. The site was gravel, nicely leveled and the hook ups were fine.

The park is small, but met all our needs for touring the area. So close to downtown Williamsburg, Busch Gardens and only 5 minutes from Starbucks for morning coffee."

"Great stay. Their outstanding, customer-oriented staff worked with us to ensure even our somewhat complicated needs were met. Shuttle @ the entrance made getting to and around Williamsburg very easy, esp with a number of people. Staff helped with recommendations regarding things to see and where to eat. 

Campground is clean and neat and exceptionally well maintained as are the cottages. Proximity to train may be an issue for some but our grandson loved it and we weren't bothered by it."

"We camped here for a week this March and were very much satisfied with the facilities and the staff. Everything was clean and well maintained. Off season was perfect for visiting Old Towne Williamsburg. We attended a Revolutionary War Conference while here and driving to that venue was easy with little traffic. It was a cinch to get to the Williamsburg Visitor's Center, also. Trains pass the campground on a regular basis, but we quickly got used to them. This campground has been here for a long time, and has an interesting blacksmithing history. The family who runs it take pride in the property...it shows. We plan more trips to Anvil Campground.

Room Tip: Call ahead if you want a specific type of spot, they will help you choose the best one for you and your rig. Passport America is honored here in the off season. They have a couple of cabins if you do not camp.”

"We certainly enjoyed our stay at Anvil RV Resort while we visited Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown. Chris, our host, provided maps of the area that kept us out of the heavy traffic, and he also had tickets on sale at discount prices. Our lot was clean ... one of the cleanest we've ever had! Our granddaughter loved the three playgrounds. A great choice. Yes, there is a train nearby, but it was no problem at all.

Room Tip: Sorry, there was not a fitness center, but the laundry area was nice!"

"To all the staff at Anvil Campground…We were delighted to be guests once again in your campground. It has been several years since we visited with 3 of our grandsons and the memories were renewed and warm. You have a family environment, safe, and so close to all the attractions.. The train was not disruptive to our quiet times and we watched so many young ones in awe as it passed by the sites. What a treat for these little future campers! Please forward this note on to Good Sam for us. We are lifetime members, but, unfortunately, can’t put our hands on our card at this writing. "We have stayed at Anvil Campground for all our Williamsburg trips the past 3 or 4 years. Large campsites, clean facilities, wonderful staff. Anvil is close to everything in Williamsburg, We will always choose Anvil over any other campground in Williamsburg."

"It's hard to find anywhere that excels at customer service and the folks at Anvil have it down! We came up from Virginia Beach for two nights during the winter. It's hard to find any campgrounds that are even open during February. I called the same day, spoke with Chris and he was very pleasant and welcoming on the phone.

We arrived pretty late but had no problem getting into the site and getting hooked up. The new super sites are really nice. The new utilities pedestals are great. Nice new gravel, landscaping cable and pretty fast wifi. It's nice to be able to check email and keep up with family when out on the road.

​

It is a small campground but has quite a lot to offer. There s a pool, arcade, playgrounds laundry and camp store. They also offer discount coupons for local attractions. I'm sure it's busy during the summer months but for a winter retreat to just get out of the house we were more than satisfied..."

"Our stay started out with Ray greeting us at the door of the registration building. He was very nice and very informative about the campground, the area and events as well as offering coupons for some of the sightseeing venues. The campground was very well kept; in fact, they were in the process of replacing all of the gravel in each site. We met some family there and were able to pull our motorhomes in the site in different directions so that our doors opened into the same area. A most lovely place, close to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown and Busch Gardens. We would definitely stay here again. ​"This cabin has a stocked kitchen with refrigerator, full bathroom with tub/shower, a separate living area with TV and DVD player, and separate bedroom with a queen sized bed. Two electric heaters keep the place cozy. Just outside the door is a play set for the kids. General store on site is well-stocked. Very close to all of the Williamsburg attractions.

"We stayed in one of their clean cottages , very nice 

Plenty of room

One bedroom , but the cot they have in the hall closet also fits 

In the bed room ( you just have to move the other bed against the wall)

The living room could also be another room, it has a futon

( bring extra bedding , there is only bedding for the main bed)

Full kitchen which was very nice

Great place for families traveling together , you could rent out both cottages

As they are very close to each other

​

They have fire rings , we did not get a chance to use it

But it's available 

​

Ok I have read the reviews about the trains and some of the other comments

I like to travel and stay in all kind of places

This cottage was fun and very clean

Yes you heard trains , but it was ok 

You didn't hear them every night No Biggie

No one mentioned how nice it was to see deer outside your cabin

Every night , they were just gorgeous

Ok so I am not a hunter sorry

It was ever so easy to find and a very convenient place 

Only 3 miles to the Historic Williamsburg

Those complaining that it's near a busy road or in a busy place

Get over it not in a busy place 

​

The website explains it all and like I said it’s a great place to stay

And easy to get around , signage is very good 

Look for the campground signs
